November 2014 Ironstrong.org Strength Extravaganza

First entry for the squat, 1x160kg @ 81kg. Let me know if that was too high.

I'll try the other lifts later this month and attempt to improve my pitiful squat.

----

From Berin:

Good lift (160kg was third squat in video), 108.38 Wilkes.

Your knees really like to be close to one another, eh?

Nicely done, Ron!

My form was awful during the competition. I was out of town for a business trip two weeks before, wasn't able to train, and somehow managed to almost completely forgot how to lift. I left a lot of weight on the platform with stupid form mistakes like my knees caving...live and learn!

Good job Matthiah!  You can definitely improve by this time next year, both in strength and technique to add pounds to your entry.

Well I just did a meet over the weekend. I weighed in at 188.3 pounds, but that was at 6 in the evening before. I didn't cut any weight, but I was still a little light from travelling. I didn't have an opportunity to weigh in the morning, but I was probably around the same weight, maybe 190 or so after hydrating and a good breakfast. I was 190.4 pounds yesterday morning though.

I squatted 215kg with 2 meter knee wraps, so I guess that doesn't count here, but I can put up my bench and deadlift.

I say go for it.  You have videoed lifts that qualify.  I'll be doing an entry sooner or later, even though I can't press worth anything at the moment.

Oh yeah, I guess I benched 325 on 11/4, but I didn't record my weight. I was probably 192 or so. I guess even at that weight, it's 1/2 wilks point or so higher than 320 @188:

But like I said, I weighed in at 188.3 for the meet.

145kg Bench

245kg Deadlift

I have the full meet video in my log...

---

BW = 192 lb / 87.1 kg

  • Bench: 325 lb, 95.75 wilks (0.5 wilks points better than the other bench)

BW = 188.3 lb / 85.4 kg

  • Deadlift: 245 kg, 160.87 wilks

Totals:

  • Two Fer: 256.62 wilks
  • Grand Total: 392.4 kg / 865 lbs

With that, you beat out RonB on grand total, but he's still got you on wilks points.

Good job, Steve!

I played around today squatting without wraps and did a really goofy 225 overhead. I can press more than I can clean apparently..

I weighed right after training, well hydrated, and was 191.0:

Squat 425

Overhead Anyhow 225

Man, Steve that press was ugly :unsure: .  Still good though.

BTW, I'm using this site for Wilks calculation. It's really cool, because you can put multiple entries in and get a table:

http://tsampa.org/training/scripts/relative_strength/

For instance, using my various body weights, all my Wilks scores are here:

 I'm not sure how we're handling bodyweight as it fluctuates throughout the month:

Seeing as the point of wilks score is to normalize the weight lifted at different BWs we simply sum up the three wilk scores, no?

And on that note, Ferrous, my 160kg squat is missing from that grand total score and from the Two-for score.

BW = 78 kg

  • Deadlift: 190 kg / 418 lb, 131.84 wilks
  • Bench: 100 kg / 220 lb, 69.39 wilks

BW = 81 kg

  • Squat: 160 kg / 353 lb, 108.38 wilks

Combined

  • Two For: 240.22 wilks

  • Grand Total: 450 kg / 992 lb,  309.61 wilks

Sorry Ghost!  I'll definitely fix those oversights when I do the final tally.

And yes, I did verify that adding two wilks scores gives you the same answer as putting in the total at a given weight.

Steve, I freeze framed the 425 squat to verify.  It's good.  I checked a couple times, you are right at parallel though the momentum of your bounce kind of makes it difficult to see.

Alright, thanks Mav. Here's the bottom:

So here's all my scores, with just the Wilks on the individual lifts and the various body weights. I'll just total the Wilks for the 3 and 4 lift Wilks scores...

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47190255/IronStrongNovember2014.sking.pdf

Body Weight - 188.3

Deadlift: 540, 160.8147 Wilks

Body Weight - 191

Squat: 425, 125.57 Wilks

Overhead: 225 - 66.4782 Wilks

Body Weight - 192

Bench: 325 - 95.751 Wilks

3 Lift Total: 1290

4 Lift Total: 1515

3 Lift Wilks: 382.1357

4 Lift Wilks: 448.6139

I'm so out of practice with filming and with squatting for competition.  The lighter squat was actually a bit shallower than this entry:

BW = 125.3 kg / 276 lb

  • Overhead Anyhow: 60 kg / 132 lb, 32.18 wilks
  • Squat (if counted): 190 kg / 419 lb, 108.22 wilks

I'll do deadlifts later, but probably won't do any benching.  Overhead anyhow was the best I could do with the wonky shoulder.

wow Mav, did you have to break in new holes for the belt in the last couple months?you look much smaller in the gut-impressive

Thanks, Jamie.  That's actually a new belt.  I got to the last hole on my blue best belt, so I ordered another.  I'm right at the center here, so by the time I'm too skinny for this belt I'll be right in the middle of my Inzer lever belt.

I'm down to just under 270 in the morning and it's still coming off.  Who knows, next year I might look like a person.
