Deadlifting W/rounded Back Video

Recommended Posts

Came across this today and thought it interesting enough to share.  I've never heard "lats into your front pockets" cue before.

Getting the lats tight (and correspondingly the pecs) keeps you more stable in the pull, and this is not the same as retracting the scapula (which engages the rhomboids, and engaging the rhomboids in a deadlift is not a good idea).

Other versions of that lat cue are lats into back pocket. I like to think I'm trying to pull my shoulders to my hips.

I have seen the "back pockets" cue, and I like "front pockets" better because the "back" version might mislead you to retract the scapula and engage the rhomboid, thus inviting injury.

The difference might be more psychological though. In practice -  when trying it -  I noticed that it basically boils down to"shoulders down" (as K said). So for me the cues that help are:

- long in the arm

- tits out/chest high

- lats in whatever pocket I can aim at as long as it's a trouser pocket

- packing the neck

seem to help.
