Anything Wrong With This Routine?

Recommended Posts

I know it's not accurate to determine what a good routine is, because it's based on the individual, but I want to know if this routine is well rounded. Here are some notes:

-I'm still a beginner and this is a FBW routine 3 days a week

-I'm including many upper body compounds because it's a weak point of mine

-I'm worried if 3x5 deadlifts will be to much with my CNS. Should I lower it to 1x5?

-Is this routine well rounded?

-Bench both days because it's weakest lift.

Routine:

Day A
Squat 3x5
Bench 3x5
Row 3x5
Pull Down 3x8

Day B

Front Squat 3x5
Press 3x5
Deadlift 3x5
Bench 3x8
Pull Down 3x8

Accessory for both
3x8
Crunch
Facepull
Hyperextension
Calf raise

*Pull downs until I can do chin ups

Bench is a weakness for most during the beginner stage.

This was evident on the old SL forum where we had a strongest man table. Lots of great squats and deadlifts, not many great bench numbers.

Nothing wrong with this routine as such although shoulder work is pretty important for helping your bench numbers.

At beginner poundages CNS burn out is unlikely.

I wouldn't lower the deadlifts until you feel like it ruins your recovery. There's no doubt whether this is happening or not, when it ruins your recovery, you'll notice.

It's ok, but suffers from the usual desire to stick too many things in into a given day. Assuming you train 3x/week, this is better:

Day A
Squat 5x5
Bench 3x5
Row 3x8
Abs

Day B
Front Squat 3x3-5
Press 3x5
Deadlift 1x5
RDL 2x6-8
Pull ups 3x6-8

Back raise 2x10-15

Day C
Bench 5x5
Squat 3x5
Dips 3x8-10
Facepull 2x10-15
Abs

There is internal logic to the make up of each of these days, let me know if it requires any explanation.
