Trying To Learn Olympic Lifts, Need Good Instuctional Videos.

Recommended Posts

I'm been looking at CalStrengths instructional videos on the snatch, clean and jerk, also been watching john norths videos, but I've heard those aren't the best ones to follow.

If there are any better ones, then it would be great to know.

Thanks =)

Please don´t watch those videos. Especially not the Jon North ones. Even Pendlay says that North doesn´t even snatch the way he explains it.

If you can´t find a coach, just watch as many russians, iranians, etc. and try to emulate. The hookgrip-guy has great photo-series which showcase good technique for both lifts.

There's one club near me, but atm I can't afford it. And when I can afford it, I would much rather know how to preform it myself, so I could rely on myself for knowledge and not trust some strangers judgement, if you get what i'm saying? I learned how to squat, deadlift and bench, with little help from others, from a lot of instructional youtube videos and forums.

But i'm also iffy about learning it myself because I could easily ingrain some bad habits =/

Could you provide me with a link to this hook grip guy?

Clubs are usually cheaper than gyms. Just go there, there will be others who can lift and help you out. They´ll show you proper technique and to be honest, people on youtube are even "stranger" than anyone you actually meet and who sees you lift live.

The one near me is very expensive... He wants 30$ per session, and 100+$ for the beginning 2 sessions, and the 30$ sessions will only be available 3 times a week.

You gotta be kidding me. People actually PAY that much?! Has he actually produced any athlete worth knowing?

I managed to teach myself how to snatch and clean and jerk reasonably well, but it took a while.  You can sometimes get a good form critique from the Pendlay forum.  I found Don McCauley's Rock and Roll, Dirty Dancing, and Sweep instructional videos to be really helpful.

I hear this book is well put together, and I like the author a lot (his logic is usually quite sound).

As for instructional vids, you could do worse than CalStrength (I think they're pretty good) but stay the fuck away from Jon North videos.
