Garage Gym

Recommended Posts

so I thought I would throw up some pics of my garage gym.... thanks everyone for the points/tips and suggestions

it took me more then two months to decide what equipment to use

(it was important  that I could do almost everything that I could do at good life)

what I decided on was(used equipment)

- hammer strength olympic squat rack

- hammer strength olympic flat bench

- hammer strength dumbell rack(TKO weights)

- life fitness cable column

- atlantis power tower

- precor stretch machine

- precor weight tree

.rubber stall mats

.maple plywood for the walls (it was beat up drywall that I just was not happy with)

Wow... Very impressive setup Jamie...and now you have it, it's easy to add little things you find you need in the future.

Looks great, was it easy to find second hand equipment? How big is the garage?

Excellent set up there.  Pros/Cons of the individual dumbbells vs. loadable handles are basically space/cost vs. speed of training.  I went the loadable handle route.

How much did the cable column set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks guys, I am very happy with it and now I even have a training partner

@Ivan- ya it was easy enough with kijiji- the garage is 18x19 I believe

@-nevermndthe bench is not in the pictures I will post one its just behind the rack

@-Mav the cable column was $500 it's used but in great condition, the guy said nobody seemed interested and he just wanted it gone

Being lazy, I'd rather have sets of various DB as I can't be bothered loading and unloading DB.

actualy there is a happy medium. If you buy some 3/4 inch metal pipe (plumbing pipe) you can load standard (1 inch) plates on them, and lock them in place with hose clamps, then when you 'outgrow' a weight, you simply disassemble that DB and construct a new weight you might need next

this also gives you the option of getting longer (24") pipes so the plates are well away from your legs on Farmers Walks

This Idea I got from Ross Enamait

First time I've seen that site.  Some pretty cool projects in there.

I can spend hours looking at diy equipment on the net. You can build a whole gym for the cost of 1-2 years gym memberships.

Damn, bro! You're doing all right there! Got a garage gym myself. All I'm really lacking is a heavy duty leg press. It's a single car garage, so I'll have to wait till I've got a two car garage before I start thinking about the leg press. Saw a guy on YouTube called "Big Ant," short for Anthony, living outside of Philly. His basement is like 1,100 square feet, every inch of which is full of gym equipment! A basement would be awesome, but since I'm in Florida, that's not a consideration!
