Music To Lift To For Guys Who Think Modern Metal Is Just Noise

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, I don't have tattoos, an epic beard, a 2-ply suit and I don't use chalk because it's icky. I don't need to feel angry to lift, I just do it out of joy. German guys screaming random lyrics about shitting on a girls' chest, I find, don't motivate me.

Here are some of my tracks:

International Love -Chris Brown feat. Pitbull

Stronger -Kanye West

Till my Bones Collapse - Eminem

Never Surrender - Corey Hart

I lol'd at "Till my bones collapse".

I too don't find metal all that motivating, but I don't listen to music when I lift because I find it distracting.

Justin I lift 50% music 50% silence depending on mood.

Till my bones collapse only good for one line "Ima rip this shit till my bones collapse". As in... get rippppppppppppppppppppppppppped (aesthetics bro).

Someone on Fitocracy recommended this song:

Daftpunk is good choice, but I prefer the hand gestures video for it:

and somebody has to mention the Ur Training Song:

I lol'd at that, because it's Till I Collapse.

So I was amused by it Swolemir.

If I can get it I like harder rock. I have zero problem lifting in silence though so I can push my zen. I can so rarely get the music I like when I lift it is no longer an issue--just when the gym pipes in light pop rock love ballads do I find it a problem.

I read/heard something about Olypmic athelete performance back in the Michael Phelps miracle games when they show'd every single olympian in every single sport with iPods before their event that music can put you in a state of arousal that elevates performance on a substantial level.

It doesn't have to be German guys shitting on girl's chest but I have to admit that when I hear older Metallica I instinctively want to pick heavy stuff up.

Cory Hart? A little less. ;)

Wait. Old Metallica doesn't count as 'modern metal' does it? Surely not!

So, given the "no metal" rule, I scratched my head and tried to think of "what is the best country and western music to listen to for lifting?" and this is what I came up with.

Some other night, I might try to figure out the best show tunes for lifting...

I sometimes like silence, as it helps me focus. But credit to Rage for helping through more than a few squat PRs.

wait.... I thought if we started making political posts, the thread would get locked...

seriously, though, is RATM no longer "modern" metal?

is a pretty awesome, classical (I guess?) song to lift to

This tune is epic, Metallica use it in the beginning of their concerts:

...but this takes us back to metal  If it's not going to be metal or hip hop I'd choose something like this

Ennio Morricone - One of the best composers.... bunch of songs that everybody knows but nobody knows who did it... This one from an Epic movie too... The Good, Bad, and ugly

Hmm, I got some good tips in here. I usually listen to hardcore or rock. Motley etc. Gonna try listening to hiphop while lifting and see if it works :)

Seriously wtf? Have to agree with Mike here.

okay, fine Rage Against the Machine is a "hard rock" band. The line between metal and hard rock has always been pretty darn blurry.

Oh, I thought this thread shouldn't include hip hop because there is a hip hop thread already (although it has only two posts: http://ironstrong.or...ng-heavy-metal/) Anyway, this is my music of choice, only real hip hop from the old days - no bullshit:

and this one for the lolz
